Quarter-wise growth

MSSC compounds quarterly — every 3 months the interest is credited and itself starts earning interest. That is why 7.5% quarterly-compounded beats a plain 7.5% simple or annual rate over the same 2 years.

Partial withdrawal: after the account completes 1 year, you may withdraw up to 40% of the eligible balance once before maturity. The remaining amount keeps compounding till the 2-year maturity.
Premature closure: no closure in the first 6 months. Between 6 months and 2 years the account can be closed, but interest is paid at the scheme rate minus 2% (i.e. 5.5% if the scheme rate is 7.5%) for completed quarters. Death of the holder or life-threatening illness of the holder/guardian allows closure at full rate.
Who can open it: any woman or girl (a guardian may open for a minor girl). One person can hold multiple MSSC accounts, but the combined deposits across all of them cannot exceed ₹2,00,000, and a second account needs a 3-month gap from the first.
